Taro and Friends is a joyful world of adorable Australian animal characters who care deeply about friendship, education and protecting their local environment.

At the heart of their stories is Taro the Fairy Penguin, a caring and trustworthy leader who inspires his friends (and readers) to live with kindness, courage and curiosity. Together, Taro and Friends share adventures that highlight what makes life on the Redlands Coast, Brisbane and across Australia so special.

Taro and Friends was lovingly created by our family, who have lived and worked in the Redlands Coast, Brisbane for over 10 years. Our characters are inspired by real places, real people and experiences – all grounded in Australia’s stunning landscapes and resilient communities. These characters represent our love for play and friendship. Through adventure and teamwork, Taro and Friends create a world where all people and all animals feel welcome and valued.

Meet the Characters of Taro and Friends - About Taro and Friends

Each character has their own personality, home and passion:

  • Taro the Fairy Penguin – A natural leader who loves the ocean and helping his friends. He hangs out near Sydney Harbour but loves coming up the Coast of Queensland.
  • Bubbles the Koala – Dreamy and thoughtful, Bubbles live in the gum trees of Minjerribah / North Stradbroke Island
  • Ace the Australian Kelpie – Full of energy, Ace works hard and loves exploring country Queensland.
  • Sydney the Rainbow Lorikeet – A curious traveller who often flys between the coastal bush of North Stradbroke Island, Cleveland and Brisbane.
  • Cash the Green Tree Snake – Bright and clever, Cash enjoys the lush rainforests of Fingal, New South Wales
  • Aunty Winter Pearl – a warm and wise guide, she lives with her family in Brisbane and shares her love for gardening, caring for country and community workshops.

FUN FACT: Taro first met Aunty Winter Pearl at the Sydney Botanic Gardens, when she was leading a composting workshop – a moment that sparked a lifelong friendship.

Bubbles calls the gum trees of Minjerribah / North Stradbroke Island home. Calm, dreamy, and thoughtful, Bubbles loves yoga, mindfulness, and brings joy to everyone around her. She has a flair for organising magical events, including weddings, birthdays, Christmas and Easter and is good at reminding us to slow down and enjoy the beauty around us.

Aunty Winter Pearl lives with her family in Brisbane, where her garden is always bursting with fresh produce and native and wild flowers to share with her neighbours. She loves cooking, eating spicy food and caring for her elders. When Winter Pearl is not in the garden, she’s writing about her camper van adventures.

Also known as a blue penguin, Taro hangs out near Sydney Harbour and loves coming up to visit his friends on the Queensland coast. He is a fearless surfer and leader with a passion for learning about fitness for all bodies. Taro encourages everyone to embrace the outdoors, live an active lifestyle and care for the ocean. He loves spending time with his family and friends and you will often find him at the beach or working out with his best mate, Ace the Kelpie.

Cash loves the lush rainforests of Fingal, New South Wales. She is smart, hilarious and ambitious, and has a flair for problem-solving, thrifting and a passion for learning about wealth and wellbeing. Since 2025 marks the Year of the Snake, she’s more inspired than ever to share valuable lessons about money management and turning dreams into reality.

Cash the Green Snake loves learning about budgeting and teaching her friends about money and building wealth.
